Chinese Medicine takes a holistic approach to treating illnesses because it views the body and mind as interconnected. If a child has an emotional imbalance, it could lead to physical imbalance, and vice versa. When a child is treated as a whole person, balance and healing are experienced on many levels.

Chinese Herbal Medicine is an important part of children’s treatments. Because herbs can have a bitter flavor, it may take up to two weeks for a child’s palate to adjust. With younger children, parents can help their child by using different chasers after taking the herbs, such as juice, crackers or a favorite snack. For older children, parents can use rewards or punishments as incentive to take herbs. It also is important to communicate to children that herbs are an important medicine that will help them feel better faster.

At A Touch of Ginger, acupuncture is used to treat children beginning at age 5. And cupping is a treatment option for toddlers, kids and teens.
